Well. I didn't post the groceries from the last two weeks. One week I had $15 to spend (yikes!) and the other I shopped throughout the week so didn't get it all in one place for a tally or photo. Over the 4th my dear hubby bought bbq fixins so we had that. Here it is the second week of July and ouch, it's a spendy one.
Can you spot the differences? There's only... four, I think.
Aldi total: $47.49 (almost everything in the photo)
Whole Foods total: $26 (Bragg's ACV unfiltered, local raw honey, flax milk, Swerve {which I discovered I don't even like})
Trader Joe's total: $2.99 (coconut milk {I'm not counting the clif bars and soda I got for the kids lol})
Dollar Tree total: $1 (oops, not pictured but I bought some cough/sore throat lozenges)
WalMart total: $13.81 (ibuprofen and Zicam wannabe)
Grand total: $91.29 WOW
Not good.
But good news- there is still the fish and ground turkey from one of the previous weeks. They were in the freezer. And there's still blueberries and some frozen fruit. There is even a couple of slices of bread left from last week. And I won't have to buy ACV, honey, sugar (of any kind), ibuprofen, cough drops, and definitely not Zicam wannabe for quite awhile. Those alone were a chunk of change.
And then the bad news again- I still haven't made a menu for the week. I totally went off of auto pilot for shopping today. I had my not-so-trusty sidekick, Fox with me. If we're missing things, he's partially to blame. Ahem. Well, except for the extra stops. Usually we go to Aldi and *maybe* Giant Eagle (hubby doesn't like the OJ from Aldi; it's watered down). The trips to Whole Foods and Trader Joes definitely were input into my GPS; no auto pilot lol. No menu means not as frugal eating. Disorderly snacking (gasp) and disappearing food for main meals.
I still don't want to make a menu...
Oh, and the title says 3.33 people. That's because my dear hubby buys little soup cups and yogurts to take to work. I don't have to buy those usually. I think that's usually less than $20 anyway. He eats at home on the weekends and evenings. I really should make his lunches... still working on that.
Wow, but those choices look interesting...
ReplyDeleteI put together a bunch of menu cards. I put them in order such as pork, beef, chicken, beans and rice. Every menu card contains 1 of these as the main course. As I use them, I put them back in the same order they were in. There are a lot of cards, so it takes a few weeks to get back around to the same menu again. This has helped me tremendously. I post the card on the refrigerator, so whoever wants to help, knows what we're having and can get out the right ingredients. I have my budget set for $75 a week. There are 4 of us. We don't eat a lot of meat, so I'm able to split meat up even further. I have started doing more shopping at Dollar Tree, Fred's, Dollar General and Mac's grocery store. I have found that the first 3 stores sometimes have better prices than Walmart. I shop Mac's for meat and sale items. I don't usually have coupons.
