In this post I'd like to share with you some of the games that we play. When I asked my kids what they think of for "Making a Home" {because I ask them all sorts of questions when I'm thinking of what to write on my blog}, games was one of the top answers. Someday I'll get to the 'dishes' post- since that was the first answer *wink*
Our most favorite game that gets played more than any other might be simply a deck of cards. With a normal 52 card deck you can play a myriad of games! Here are just a few examples: Solitaire {although not really a 'family' game, it definitely has its place}, Garbage, Golf, Rummy {and Gin Rummy}, Go Fish, Slap Jack, Memory, etc. Two math card games that we have and enjoy are Fractazmic and Qwitch.
We also have Phase 10, another card game, that I particularly enjoy.

Next on our list would be board games. We don't play these as often as we could because somehow the word 'board' is often changed to 'bored'. It seems to have an affect on the mood of the players lol. Games we have include {but not limited to- I'm just forgetting a bunch}: Aggravation, Clue, Dominoes {although there's no board...}, Life, Scrabble...I even made my own game of Life at one time that we still play.
My favorite of those would be Scrabble but the kids want to throw in the towel long before I do. Another word game that we have and I absolutely love is Bananagrams!

We do play other games such as Apples to Apples {Junior I believe} and Battleship. And occasionally you can find us playing 'games' like tag outside. Honestly though, as the kids get bigger and have the ability to overtake me when playing rough, I'm more likely to suggest a nice calm game of Phase 10.
There are quite a few more games that I know we have, I just cannot think of what they are! Oh! Like North Star Games' Wits & Wagers- great game. We can play that again and again.

Some families have a game night. We don't have a set night but we do really enjoy playing games. Having a set night of the week to play games together might not be such a bad idea. In fact, I think it's a splendid idea! {Why of course it is! That's why so many families already do it lol}
What are some of your family's favorite games?
I’m linking this post up with Making a Home at Linda’s Lunacy, where we can share posts about homemaking ideas, recipes, crafts, decorating, cleaning tips, basically anything that has to do with caring for a home and family.

My family's favorite games all involve the world of Catan :) A friend got Settlers of Catan for my family a year or two ago. And, after finally making it through the instructions and playing it a few times, I was hooked :) It's a great way to spend an afternoon together!
ReplyDeleteOh! I'll have to look that up. Have never heard of it. I'd like to try some strategy games but I'm not sure which ones.
DeleteScrabble, for sure! Since I'm hopeless at strategy but great with words, it's one of the few I can actually win. :-)
ReplyDeleteScrabble can be a strategy game ;) But I understand what you mean- I'm not good at the strategy games; I just want to be!
DeleteWe like so many that you have listed. Two more favorites are Skip-bo and chess.
ReplyDeleteChess! Yes! My dd loves chess but she is the only one of the three of us that can play it correctly. Her brother and I are always asking for directions from her when we play. Fortunately, she plays fair and doesn't give us poor advice ;) We still very rarely win!
