You may have seen the post I put up about my kiddos first 4H entries into their first fair. It was a long stressful process (lol, I mean that 1/2 joking!) to get the entries done and ready for fair. It is unfortunate that we were not here for fair and won't be able to go the state fair in Douglas, WY, which is the 14th-21st of this month. BUT it is totally awesome because...(the suspense, I'm dragging this out...).... They both got Red ribbons! Lee has 3 out of 4 entries going to STATE!! If you look at my original post on their entries, the first two photos of Lee's and her poster are the ones going to state.
When we went to try to pick up their entries yesterday from the extension office we had some things clarified (like how slim our window is for picking up their entries...sheesh! we have 2 hours on one specific day) and then the lady asked what they were awarded for their entries. We had no idea because we weren't here for fair. In the car over to the extension office I had warned the kids, trying to lessen the blow, that they should not expect anything (ribbons specifically because I was not sure how that was done- if ALL entries received a ribbon or what). They were fine with just doing a good job on their entries and I thought they did wonderfully. So the lady went down a hall, into a room filled with three-ring binders...she comes back with three binders, full of recorded entries. She's flipping through them (so slowly!) and finally she finds Lee's entries.
"Good job, your entries went to state!" she told Lee. Wow! We were so shocked. Not because we didn't think they were good enough entries but because we'd worked ourselves up to being content with just getting the entries returned!
Fox's entries were in a separate binder and she got to it last, of course... If he had been in the office with us he probably would have been tempted to take the binder and search himself lol. His poster got a Red ribbon!
I'm so proud of them! Now they really want to do 4H again next year. I think that is great BUT I draw the line at foodstuff. No cooking next time!! We baked cakes like a crazy chef (we even did 4 at a time one day!). They agreed easily enough :)
WOW! Way to go kids! WOW! Hey I'm proud of ya both!!!
ReplyDeleteThat's great, Blossom! Congratulations to them both. :)
