This past week our family went to Washington, D. C. Neither the kids nor myself had been. Dear hubby went 11 years ago. It was to be a memorable family vacation. Well, it was definitely memorable.

Our first stop was Hershey, PA.
Then we were on our way to D.C. Little did we know that almost all of what we planned was for naught. With the government shut-down, most of the places we wanted to see the most were closed.
We still had the 48-hour tour bus ride. We opted for the open-top most of the time.
I'll just share a few more photos from the most photographed locations.
The Washington Monument
The Iwo Jima Memorial
Arlington National Cemetery
I will leave this post at that. We weren't able to actually go up to the Lincoln Memorial, the Jefferson Memorial and none of the National Parks. We'd also planned to stop at Gettysburg, PA, on our way home. That didn't happen either. Our next issue of the Weekly Barden will talk more about our trip- and our thoughts on the government shut-down.
What a bummer you didn't get to see the monuments. I have seen all the monuments many years ago. They are wonderful to see. I am jealous you got to Hershey, PA though I would have loved to see that. I really liked the Arlington Cemetery. The eternal flame and the tomb of the unknown solider was my favorite part.
