North Laurel Home & School Weekly Wrap Up

Weird Unsocialized Homeschoolers Homegrown Learnershttp://hammocktracks.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/savannahbutton2.png No Ordinary Blog Hop
Usually I follow the Homeschool Mother’s Journal format, but this post won’t necessarily. The main reason is because I don’t have the format right in front of me. I am linking up with the weekly wrap up sites above. Hope you can join in!
Sunday we had church and our luncheon afterwards. We go to church at 9:45, have Sunday school and main service at 11:00. About 12ish we have our luncheon where we can socialize and enjoy good food. This past Sunday was “gourmet” grilled cheese sandwiches as the main dish. I had chosen to have a Fontina cheese, Granny Smith apple, cherries (dried?), and mustard. Oh, on sourdough bread. It was tasty. This coming Sunday is bbq- yum. It will be the last one of the winter.
Monday, found us looking for the Goodwill nearby. Since the family that Lee babysits for are out of town, we didn’t have to make that trip. Instead we drove about 30 minutes (the same time it would have been to drive to the babysitting) to the Goodwill and another second-hand store called Unique Thrift. Both stores were overly priced! If there had been a great deal on something that I just couldn’t live without, I’d have made a purchase. There wasn’t.
Tuesday we watched The Crossmaker from See The Light (review coming soon). The original intent was to watch it and do the art lesson. That didn’t quite happen. I’m not entirely sure why- oh, maybe because the rest of the day was crowding in. Probably. Anyway- we loved what we watched. We watched the Creative Lettering art lesson and I just had to do it. I wrote my grandma a note with “Grandma” in creative lettering. I don’t recall if this is the day or if it was Wednesday that we decided to go to the library to find books on my creative lettering. I did find a book titled Calligraphy & Illumination by Patricia Lovett that I’ve been finding helpful. From there I made a special page for a friend (sent that off yesterday) and a verse for hanging up at home.
Wednesday was a, ahem, fail. At least I feel it was. We did no school- none. The kids did do their chores somewhat and of course I did make food for us. Ah, Fox had Young Marines and I guess I did the week’s grocery shopping. I’d spaced it and finally remembered when it was close to dinner time and no dinner food to be had. My absent mindedness had us missing prayer meeting as well.
I did work a lot on my NLHome Compiling Spot (for AO/HEO Kindle Ready Books). It’s amazing how many books are available for the Kindle now but at the same time, they are getting up there in price. One thing I’ve always had an ‘issue’ with for ebooks is that you cannot sell them and you can’t give them away like physical books.
Thursday was better. The school part was all completed and with good results. I worked on another creative lettering page, this one of the Lord’s Prayer in Latin using a Sharpie Calligraphy marker. I’ve had the pen for years and never used it! Interestingly, our Latin program has the Lord’s Prayer but it is missing the last part- “For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory for ever.”  So I went to Google Translate and figured it out –I think.
For dinner I made a pork roast. It was supposed to be fish and veggies but I’d taken out the roast to thaw, oh, 3 days prior and had forgotten about it. Had to get it going before noon.
Friday has gone just peachy. Fridays are always good, aren’t they? I made yeast pancakes this morning which was different but good. Got the recipe from my m-i-l. She gave my dh a 3 page ‘book’ with some basic recipes when he moved out. Quite a few of them have become staples for us. Tonight’s dinner is crockpot lasagna. I hope it tastes good since I seem to have misplaced the recipe and went by memory. It won’t have enough ‘flavor’, I think, because I didn’t have any Italian seasoning- which I just love.
Laundry is being done, dishes are almost all done, and I got some little things taken care of. It’s been a good end to the week. I really need to get my bathroom cleaned and probably straighten up my bedroom (oh, I won’t even mention the spare room/craft room)- but that will happen tomorrow.
I will leave with a picture of a portion of our creative lettering projects.

  3. You might be able to find the book at the library, Ellen. I'm thinking of buying it myself but got it first at the library (I love "my" library).
