In our life this week…
…fairly laid back. It was an off of school week so the kids didn’t have to worry about that. It was also the first week we had our usual screen time back. For them the time has been cut to up to 2 hours a day with a 1 hour limit on anything internet. They both are really into Pokemon (bleh!) and on one day they both were able to get an awesome one that they’d been waiting for. I don’t get it but imho it’s better than some of the other junk out in the world. I’m okay with it for now.
In our homeschool…
…we didn’t have school this week so I dubbed it Teacher Prep Week. I’ve been hanging out over at the AO forum. There are so many helpful people there! It’s been quite busy but I do think it will quiet down after a bit. We –by that I mean ME –are just so excited to have an official forum. A Yahoo! Group is nice but it is slow…the forum is almost instant (as long as there are a lot of people on at the same time *wink*). It’s great. I like how they’ve set it up. By Forms (I,II,III,IV), by subjects (too many to list here!), and also a whole section for rambling.
And with the help of so many posts there, I’ve been tweaking our schedules. I’d had it pretty much planned but a few books I’d missed. Not that I saw them and decided to exclude them, no; totally missed their existence. On further examination, a couple I did exclude, simply for worrying we won’t have the time to get them in, not because of their worth or content. They’re in the ‘maybe’ pile.
I think I underestimate my kids! I have chosen to use Y7Lite for Fox because I didn’t think he could handle the full year. Bah! Now that we’re over a month into it, I know it was that I was worried about the effort I’d have to put into making him do the work. He could do a full year. But it is done. We will continue with his Lite year- next year there will be no mercy!
When I get their plans for the year all out, I thought about doing a post but honestly, it’s a lot like the Y# booklist on AO. But with some books taken out. We are using mostly all that is recommended (except with Science). Actually, I just looked and there are quite a few things that are different but I don’t know if it worthy of a post.
Homeschool advice…
…Stick with your choices. Pray over them and then stick with them. It’ll give y’all sticktoitiveness
Places we are going/People we are seeing…
…on Monday we went to the Cleveland Air Show. It was outrageously expensive. And I’m going to be honest and let all know that I wasn’t that impressed. I tried to curtail my disappointment and remind myself that it isn’t AirVenture. Nothing compares after AirVenture. Not to mention I got a sunburn worse than I can recall having since I was little. We had planned to go on Sunday but the rain kept us home. It would have been awesome that day, I think –no sun –and there was the Parade of Ships, including a replica of the Lawrence. We saw the sails of the ship on Thursday afternoon and were so excited to go on Sunday. But it was not to be. Oh well. I think we could find out where it is docked and visit it at some point. Maybe.
The rest of the week we barely went anywhere. Fox had Young Marines but due to the air show, Lee didn’t have to babysit. We haven’t gone grocery shopping yet for this week but we did make it to the library at least once. I’d like to go again today; I have a book waiting to be picked up.
