Hello again, blog-buddies! It is time for Current Events.
Those tornadoes are still hitting in the western areas. We have a story from there today: a mom protected her two kids from a tornado by shielding them with her body. The falling debris injured her quite a bit; she lost a leg and foot. But she and her kids are all alive, thanks to her actions. She claims that she’s not a hero, she just acted on motherly instincts.
Sugar, a white cat who lives in Boston, recently survived a nineteen-story fall from her apartment. Not only survived, she only got a few bruises! Why? Well, you’ve all heard how cats land on their feet. Well, the higher up they are when they fall, the more time they have to right themselves, stretched out kind of like a flying squirrel, and thus reduce their speed some and land perfectly. She also fell in some mulch, softening the impact. Cats are so awesome, aren’t they? Hehe…
Well, we’ve had cat news, guess we got to add some dog news, hmm? And here it is: BeyoncĂ© the puppy may be the world’s smallest puppy. When she was born, she could have fit in the bowl of a spoon! Now, at two weeks old, she’s just a little bigger than a business card. Not only is she small, she almost died when she was born. Her heart wasn’t beating and she wasn’t breathing. The vet taking care of her and her mother had to do CPR on the puppy. But she’s doing good now, and looking for a home. Full story here.
Over in Arizona, a local Air & Space museum launched a 45-foot paper airplane – and it flew! They had the airplane lifted by a helicopter, then cut loose, and it flew! I think that’s really, really cool! It buckled under its own weight at first, but then started gliding. The airplane’s size may be a world record.
And that is your Current Events. See you next week!
