In my life this week…
I've been finishing up reviews (only 3 more for the year!), thinking about couponing, trying to stay focused with my goals. Finished my Spanish class with an admirable "C". But feeling stressed all week, just under the surface.
In our homeschool this week…
both kids have done school everyday and generally without complaints or too much hassle. Lee finally has started on her narration (paper) for Fearfully & Wonderfully Made. I'm having her write her narration out because there were many times that, even though we read the chapter, we were strapped for time to do the narration (bad mom, bad). Discovered that Fox dropped in his math skills from the start of the year to now. Something to work on. He also is having trouble with concentrating and seeing errors in math, spelling, in general.
Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…
Tomorrow is my birthday so we may go to the Oregon Trail Ruts in Guernsey, WY, and dinner at the Wonderful House in Scottsbluff, NE. I might get to have coffee with my friend, Christy.
My favorite thing this week was…
knowing that in some way I helped my mom with a tough situation she is going through, even though I am 1200 miles away. And time spent with my ever encouraging friend, Christy.
What’s working/not working for us...
What's working is that this is the last month of school! Hallelujah! What's not working any more and I just don't know if I can make it until June, are my college classes. I'm bogged down and cannot homeschool the way my kids need me to. I just cannot seem to do much of anything. I eat, sleep, dream, breath my classes- and yet I'm still barely getting them done. Praise God that, whether I graduate or not, I am going to be done June 11th!
Homeschool questions/thoughts I have…
I keep second guessing myself with Lee's Biology choice for 9th grade. I do not want her to be unprepared when she enters college (because she does plan on going) but at the same time, I dislike the evolutionary thought behind the text I've chosen. I do not have the means to keep changing it up... so I will go with it. Science and I do not get along. I also worry that I am choosing a science 'curriculum' (made up by myself) that will be too easy for Fox. He's gone through Earth/Physical/Life Sciences already. I think I'm just in the same boat with him on this.

because I'm thinking Science...
I love that we found Apologia. I try to strike a balance in books that doesn't offend me by being too religious yet doesn't stray too far the other way too. So far, Apologia is working...
ReplyDeleteHang in there with your college classes!
ReplyDeleteIf you can switch to Apologia, you'll be so thankful you did. There are no secular biology text without lots of evolution. What's worse is that evolution is assumed as a foundation, so it permeates everything in the other chapters as well. That's very hard for a kid to deal with, and it's probably just less stress for everyone if you go with Apologia.
Annie Kate
Blossom,
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to a fellow May baby!! May your day be as lovely as you are. And, I like this Homeschool Mother's Journal. What a great idea.
@ Michelle & Annie Kate: I've looked at Apologia and unless my dd decides to go to a Christian college (wouldn't that be great) she isn't going to be prepared with Apologia- imho. I've looked at Apologia and it is a good program (little spendy for me) but I've also been through college science myself. I think I will continue my route and we KNOW evolution is simply a scientific theory- but we wholeheartedly agree with Creation. It'll work out :) Thanks :)
ReplyDelete@ Trisha: Thanks so much! So far the day's been excellent- a new juicer, chocolate, coffee and a butterfly in a jar- what else could I want :) I'm blessed, truly blessed!
Happy Birthday!
