I absolutely love C. S. Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia. I received the boxed set when I was in 10th grade from Mr. Clarke (my science teacher) as an appreciation gift for being his teacher's aid two years in a row. At first I had been skeptical of the books because I actually was reading books by Stephen King and Dean Koontz at the time (horrid books, I think now) and thought that the Chronicles would be childish or too simple and easy.
Wow. I was so wrong. I love these books. Absolutely.
When my kids were about 5 and 8 I started reading these to them as a bed time story- one chapter a night. Sometimes we were so engrossed we just had to read two chapters! My kids loved the time I spent cuddled on their bed, reading until my voice was scratchy and they couldn't hold their eyes open any longer.
There were parts of the book that we didn't understand. There were parts of the book that they thought, at the time, were frightening a little. But every book, every part, we enjoyed.
This looks exactly like the book I have :) It's very old and the set is in it's original order.
I follow Betsy's blog, Notebooking Nook, and she has a great post with a neat lapbook: Voyage of the Dawn Treader.
I am anxious to watch the movie coming out this month. But at the same time, I'm nervous. I loved the first film (there were two parts of the film that I didn't agree with but eh, it was good anyway) but the second I had some issues with (when was there kissing and such in the book??). As I watched the trailer for the Voyage of the Dawn Treader, I honestly cannot recall if the scenes they show are true to the book. My kids and I decided we need to reread the book.
Hey Blossom! Like you, I'm a tad nervous because "they" did indeed change Prince Caspian. There is no love interest between Caspian and Susan in the book! However, all the bits in the trailer for Dawn Treader seem just like the book, so I remain hopeful! However, even if I enjoy the films, the books are just better, period. :-)
ReplyDeleteI think it would be a great time to check out the audio book for the car . . . Great Tip!
ReplyDeleteWe started reading the book aloud last night. I love it. I wish I could do the voices lol- but I just can't do Reepicheep... we laugh when I try!
ReplyDeleteI came across the lapbook study also and am planning on using it. If you haven't already seen the movie, I thought you may like to read the review from Plugged In: http://www.pluggedin.com/movies/intheaters/chroniclesofnarniathevoyageofthedawntreader.aspx
