Today is Saturday:
Yesterday (last night really) I broke down and bought a new camera. It is a GE A950. 9.1megapixels/ 5X optical zoom/ 2.5" LCD. It's red and silver. Features include: Pan-capture Panorama, Auto Scene Detection, Face & Smile Detection, Blink Detection, 1600 ISO, Image Stabilization, Red-Eye Removal. A little more information here. Or specifically for the red one, look here.
I have been fiddling with it and so far, well, I'm not terribly impressed... I wanted a camera that had good zoom ability (some cameras were cheaper but had 3X zoom) because with my old Kodak it was one of the great things about it. I still have the old Kodak but the batteries never last! I can take one picture with brand new batteries and then it dies. It doesn't matter what type batteries I use either. It's still a good camera but not if it won't turn on.
Anyway, on with my first impressions of my new camera. Thankfully it came with batteries. And I have a SD card (two actually) because the internal memory on this camera is tiny. I took 4 pictures on Normal Quality (the lowest it will go) and it filled the memory.
Picture quality: When I take a picture and view it on through the LCD, the picture looks choppy (?) or pixelated almost. On the old Kodak (and yes, I am using it as comparison because I like my old Kodak- lets call it the oK lol), it would sometimes appear the same way. However, on the oK when the photos are viewed on the computer they are beautiful. Crisp, clear, and wonderful colors. The GE camera does not have the same quality as the oK.
My oK, btw is a EasyShare CX7530 with 5.0 megapixels, 3X optical zoom (oh, just now seeing that- oops thought it was more). It also has something called Kodak Color Science Chip.
So that is my first impression. I plan on taking it out today and testing it a bit more. I did get an extended warranty on it because I got it from a local store and that just makes me a little more cautious than normal. I will do a follow up later...ah, maybe with pictures of the garden :)
Your Kodak died because you used regular batteries in it - once you do that with a Kodak it ruins it. I know I have had two of them. Never had any problem until I used the regular batteries. But after I did, the camera would drain the batteries. But I am glad you got a new camera! My new one isn't "all that" even though it does have a some very nice features. As I learn how to use it, I can get better pictures, but not even near as well as my Cannon did...
