The Week Before Winter Break

And not much is happening. School-wise that is. I've been feeling the 'drag' for about 2 weeks now. Shhh, don't tell my kids but this is going to be a light week. We've been at school for almost 2 months straight. Our breaks are usually between 4-6 weeks; we're at a record here! I just checked and this is week 7. Wow, I think we're {read: I'm} spoiled!

I'm going to 'cut' science and sign language from the week's schedule. What else can I cut...? Apparently Round Table has been cut. Uh, well, not intentionally. We didn't have it Friday or Monday. Or today yet. I would really like to at least keep that going. We have been reading The Attributes of God by Pink (?) and Science Matters by Hazen and Trefil (thanks to Cindy's suggestion). Also we do our hymn singing, prayers, capital/states, Presidents, and memorization/recitation. Rather, I should say they do most of those. I can do the first few but I drop off at the Presidents and memorization/recitation.

I don't feel like we are really moving along these last couple of weeks. On the whiteboard it says the week start date {from Monday- Sunday ends our week} and then the week #. Well our week number has been slipping. It was on track, then it was a mix number and now it's the same as it was last week. We're not getting very far this way! Although, as I write that and think about it, it could totally be that I'm not sure what we week we are really on in the first place. Hmmm.

I really need that Winter Break.

As it's getting closer, I'm getting a little more 'stressed' I think. Some people work great under deadlines and pressure; they excel. Um, when I have a deadline that is right on me, I have the opposite reaction. I relax. Relax way too much. I let it all just go. Not good; not good at all.

First is Thanksgiving. I can handle that. I think. I've been prepping for it for a few weeks already. Got our stash of snacks and non-perishables for the day. Still have to procure (?) the turkey and just a couple other things to purchase, but otherwise, it just needs preparing. The rest of the week? We may not eat! I seem to have forgotten the other days in that week which will require meals and whatnot. Oooops. So now I'm starting to 'stress' a bit about that.

Just a bit.

After Thanksgiving we have a week of nothing. Ah, wonderful 'nothing'. Oh, wait, that's not exactly true. We are going to see family, on the other side of the country. It's not going to be a short trip. There's planning needed for that. Much planning. My dear wonderful hubby has taken care of all of the logistics and financial aspects of that but I still have to figure out what goes, what stays. We have to figure out the best way to cram our stuff in the smallest space possible. There's a little stress there.

We are going to have "Christmas" before we leave. But before that, the kids are participating in the church cantata. There is practice multiple times before hand. Oh, yes, and I forgot there's a Thanksgiving luncheon at the church before Thanksgiving. I have to make something for that. I guess there is also a Christmas luncheon the day before we leave for Christmas vacation; I don't think we're attending that. One less bit of stress?

So, this week before Winter Break is going to be a little 'break before the break', so that we {read: I} don't break! I really need to go and figure out what needs to be done...and what can be left by the wayside for awhile.
