Weekly Wrap-Up: It’s Been Awhile?

Each Friday I fully intend to write up a post to share with the bloggie world (or is that bloggy?). Eh, well, sporadic is better than not at all, I suppose.

Oh, and here’s a little wishful thinking:

We had family visit from Oregon for 5 days. It was really 6 days but they left so early on the 6th day, it almost didn’t count. They got here on Friday and left early Wednesday. The kids didn’t have school Monday and Tuesday.

In my life this week…
…well there was family Smile It’s interesting how much quicker the sink fills up and the food runs out with just two extra people. And neither of them ate very much! It was nice to have them here.

While they were here we went to see “The Great and Powerful Oz” in 3-D. I’ve never seen a 3-D movie before. This one was pretty neat. We all kept our glasses as souvenirs. Also we went to B. A. Sweetie candy store where the kids super sweet aunt bought them not too much candy Winking smile Lee made herself sick; Fox just was himself times 100 (super hyper and loud). I ate a bunch too and felt a bit better than Lee and somewhat like Fox. Of course, the next day we had to have peanut butter candy and today I made no-bake cookies. It takes time to come off the sugar… lol.

My mother in law showed Lee and I how to make Zentangles. My sister in law, Lee and I made one to put in a frame I have. These are 2.5 inch squares.

 In our homeschool this week…
…we had school on Wednesday through today, Friday. It felt…weird. Incomplete. Some readings or activities I decided to forgo until next week because we’d have a two day break in between. And here is the thing I seem to say all the time when talking about our homeschooling: I feel like we are behind. Trying to find that place where it’s okay that we don’t finish ‘this’ or ‘that’.

Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share…
…it is a post by a Charlotte Mason homeschool whose son is in college. It’s title, “Homeschooling: What I Didn’t Do” Helpful. Now, Cindy at Ordo Amoris has it more ‘together’ than I do when it comes to CM homeschooling. It’s still encouraging to me.

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…
…Sunday is church… but it’s a special day! We are having a brunch right after the morning service –I hope it’s a good one about Christ’s rising –and then later we are going to have a Singspiration followed by an ice cream social. I love the Singsirations –we get together and just sing, sing, sing. Last time, some time last year, we had a handout to sing from. So many of the hymns I had never heard but quite a few I marked as ones I want to learn and sing again. Of course the ice cream later is nice also Winking smile

Monday we should be going to Mentor for Lee’s babysitting. Probably grocery shopping on Tuesday morning. Wednesday night Fox has Young Marines and there is Prayer Meeting at church. I don’t think we have anything special planned. I hear it is supposed to snow again Monday.

My favorite thing this week was…
…family!

My kiddos favorite thing this week was…
…family/candy! I had to put them both because I’m fairly sure they were tied.

Things I’m working on…
…I know it’s not the thought that counts or I’d list all those. I’m trying to work on making it more than just a thought. Working on getting my house straightened up (and dusted). Working on keeping us going with school. We’re so close to the finish for the year. Working on eating better (uh, you read about the candy and cookies and ice cream didn’t you?) so I feel better.

Reviews. Quite a few books reviews and one curriculum review. The curriculum review will be a bit tougher than I thought since I do not have children who can use it. I’m going to look at it from a tutor’s perspective; maybe I can get someone to let me tutor their kid Winking smile

I’m cooking…
…tonight it was pizza. This morning I made chocolate cinnamon chocolate chip pancakes. Yesterday I cooked chicken in the crockpot with sloppy joe sauce and diced tomatoes all day; the chicken just fell apart by dinner time. We had rice and veggies with it. That turned in to lunch for us today. Tomorrow I have to make a coffee cake for the church brunch. For dinner I’m planning on having kielbasa sausage with potatoes and … not sure what else. I still have to figure out what dinner will be on Sunday. Maybe beans in the crockpot.

I’m grateful for…
…The food we have: often times I look in the fridge or cupboards and think there’s nothing to eat but really, there is plenty. We have rice and beans aplenty (well I might need another bag of beans to say ‘aplenty’) and I can bake bread or rolls when I want. In our pantry are quite a few canned goods. Our fridge is far from stuffed but we aren’t hungry (unless you count Fox –he’s always hungry!). We were going to go today and do some stock up shopping at a local warehouse store but I forgot my membership card. We usually spend about $450 and it will last for 4 months. As I was feeling so guilty about forgetting my card, I realized that we don’t need to do that stock up shopping. I’m a firm believer that God will provide for all of our needs.

I’m praying for…
…this might sound selfish but I’m praying for myself. I’m in need of some serious heart cleansing and only God can do it. Without that, I can’t seem to pray for others Sad smile

Something I am ogling or have my eye on…
…’specialty’ food like coconut oil and glucomannan, golden flax meal and salmon.

  2. At first I actually didn't want to do them. Until I actually did one! They can be addicting! Very 'fun' for us :)

  3. It is so hard to school when others are in the house and our routines are out of sync. That's why we took a break too this week, not family, but friends...
