Last year I tried to read 50 books in the year. I may have even read that many but I forgot to record it somewhere so when I looked at Goodreads, I was under my goal by probably 1/2. Any reading is better than no reading…right?
This year I have a goal of 52 books. One book a week. That is doable. I’m sure it is. I’ve been keeping better track so far of what I’m reading. Here are the books I’ve read so far in 2013:
- Kindred by Octavia Butler
- Rip van Winkle by Washington Irving
- The Time Machine by H. G. Wells
- The Tachypomp by Edward Page Mitchell (it is actually a short story rather than a book)
- The History of Astronomy by George Forbes (finally finished it)
- The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger
- The Last Christian by David Gregory (I put a post on The Book Guardians about this book)
- Timekeeper by Alexandra Monir (I will post on The Book Guardians about this book)
Those are the books I’ve finished to this point. Books on my currently reading shelf? I wonder if single books of the Bible count…? I’m half way through Zechariah… Anyway. I am on the review list for the book The Tutor’s Daughter by Julie Klassen and signed up for (yet to see if I’m chosen) for Stress Test by Richard Mabry. I also have The Genius of Ancient Man on my Kindle Fire that I received it seems forever ago –I keep forgetting to read it!
I requested a digital copy of The Time Keeper by Mitch Albom but I cannot figure out how to access the book. I’ll probably just have to wait until it is returned and check out the physical book. I did see it at one of the libraries I frequent. I also have The Excellent Wife by Martha Peace on the way through the library loan system.
For some reason, I really feel the need to read. And read a lot. Possibly because I feel my mind is slipping into sloppiness. I’m on the look out for good books –well written but also with a good message in them; fiction or non-fiction. I will let you in on a little secret: the reason a lot of the books I’ve read thus far deal with ‘time’ is because I’m doing research for a book that I want to write (started it with NaNoWriMo) but it won’t be done for quite awhile. I mean a really long while. And who knows, it may be a book that never gets published but I do want to write it.
What have you been reading lately? Any book titles you care to suggest I look up and read?
I really liked The Genius of Ancient Man. I tried to start writing during NaNoWriMo, and I got a really good first chapter written. Does that count? I'm maybe 1/40th of the way through a good book! :-)
ReplyDeleteI feel the need to read a lot, too, Blossom! I can't wait to read your review of The Tutor's Daughter. I enjoy Julie Klassen's books. Have you read any of Wilkie Collins's work? I've read both The Woman in White and The Moonstone and highly recommend them. I think they are free for Kindle...
ReplyDeleteGood to know you liked the book, Leah. I like to hear others I know like (or didn't like) a book I'm going to read. It makes it easier to read.
ReplyDeleteAnd yea! Writing at all (imho) for NaNo counts. I have 3 chapters so far- about 6 pages per chapter. I've got the entire story in my head, just not the details and that's what's holding me back at the moment. It's fun though; writing just because.
Thanks for the suggestion, Ellen. I'll definitely look them up.
ReplyDeleteI read one other of Klassen's books but at the moment can't recall the title -oh, it was The Apothecary's Daughter. I thought it was a great book.
