Current Events: Week of 11/28-12/2

Hey, Lee here! Here’s your new ‘Current Events’ post for this week!

So, you’ve all probably heard about the unrest in Egypt, hmm? I’m not sure about all the details, but something about a leader the people didn’t want, a government that used military force a lot, and rebellions, and such forth. Well, on Monday, voting was held for the new governmental elections. Since the people had been restless and somewhat violent, no one was really sure how the voting was going to. Crowds formed on Monday morning, and the military forces guarding the voting areas were probably nervous. Once the time came for the voting to start, people made their way peacefully. So, the voting was a success! Despite the peacefulness of the voting, it won’t change a few things. People have hope, but most are sure their new government isn’t going to be great. Well, what do you expect from the government?!

Moving on… Texas wildfires! You’ve heard about how most of Texas got burnt up, right? Yikes! Well, the 2011 season for wildfires has ended, allowing officials to gather up the costs of the destruction. Their estimate? $337 MILLION! And that’s just an estimate! Insurance companies have to tally up the real prices before they can figure out the real cost. And, unfortunately, reimbursement can only go up to $39 million, so they’re short! But people are optimistic that the government will be generous and help out. Some people have been able to return home—yay! Though some aren’t quite; they’re waiting. Hopefully they’ll get home soon; there’s supposed to be a lull in the wildfires, so things can get cleaned up! On the downside, next year isn’t looking good. Meteorologists are predicting a drought in the area that could last a decade! I don’t think I want to move to Texas anytime soon…

That’s your ‘Current Events’! I’ll be back next Friday! Peace
