Lee and I talked some today about what her plans are for the future. Yes, she is only 15 but it never hurts to have a path or goal. She was wondering out loud if she really needs to go to college. I say ‘no’. It is not a need. And especially if what she wants to do doesn’t truly require a degree (if she wants to be a doctor- yes! she’d go to college!). There are so many opportunities that don’t necessarily happen when in college or at college or because one went to college. She can do just about anything without a degree as long as she is motivated enough to learn and go after it.

With that discussion came a change in the choices I’d made for her subjects. Since she does not plan to major in a biological field (not science at all in fact), she can do just fine with a non-biology major course load. She doesn’t need the AP biology class. If she doesn’t plan to go to college at all (and that isn’t decided yet) she definitely doesn’t need that much biology. I am not trying to cheat her- I’m trying to let her focus on what she wants to do. No point (in my opinion- like I need to put that in there lol) in stressing her out when she is a teenager- there’s plenty of time for that as an adult!
