weekly wrap-up

Our week in review:

Monday and Tuesday were good days. Monday had the appraiser over at the house early. I had made up my Goal Planning Monday list and posted it…well the appraisers visit accelerated some of my goals. I cleaned my house on Monday instead of breaking it up into different days. I worked out fine…but it really seems to have caused me more work…the house doesn’t look clean anymore lol. Tuesday was sweet and calm. The kids did their work well and it just went smoothly.

Wednesday, I turned off my internet at home. At least they said, “It’s scheduled.” Not sure what that means. I used a cable modem that had an Ethernet cord so I wonder if I still had the modem if I would have internet… suppose it is a worthless wonder- I have no modem! I finally got my laptop to connect wirelessly at the public library. I can’t live without internet.

Yes. Yes, I can.

Thursday….went well. So well I can’t recall much about it… OH! Dd used all the money she’d saved from working and birthday money and bought a Nintendo DSi. She had wanted to get a DSLite and a game but they don’t have them (and the guy thinks they are done making them, too). So instead she bought the DSi. And no game. She still loves it!

Friday….We are house-sitting. School did get done (or is in progress) but really I think I am more concerned that the house get cleaned! I was trying to have goals and clean/organize different parts of the house but no…that didn’t happen. I would start to get things cleaned (which you know makes things dirtier or at least more disorganized). It keeps being put off. Today is the day to get it done! I think.

Here’s what they accomplished Thursday and Friday:
Lee:
Bible:
Reading (Numbers 31, John 21), verse (Romans 6:1-14), Mere Christianity
Math: Life of Fred Beginning Algebra (Lesson 57-58)
History/Geography: The Life of Christopher Columbus, Western Civilization (review, has quiz/test today- is online and online is being stubborn today [since we no longer actually have internet, we have to ‘find’ it where we can])
Language Arts: Jensen’s Grammar (Lesson 66-67), How to Read a Book
Foreign Language:  First Form Latin (Lesson 18, worksheet 4-5)
Gov’t/Economics/Civics/Logic: Utopia, Ourselves (will do that later)
Science: Biology (pages 64-69, vocabulary)
Composer Study: Ancient Music to Music in the Middle Ages (Gregorian chants, listened to Salve Regina, Dies Irae and a couple that we found on YouTube, did Note-taking pages from The Young Scholar’s Guide to Composers. See the link up here.)

Fox: (he did most of his work earlier in the week so that he would have Friday ‘almost’ free)
Bible: Reading (Number 20, Mark 14), verse (Ephesians 6:1-2)
Math: Life of Fred PreAlgebra 2 with Economics (Chapter 25), Khan Academy
History/Geography: What Everyone Should Know… (pages 303-305, written narration)
Language Arts: 30 minutes of reading (Parables from Nature)
Foreign Language: First Form Latin (Lesson 18, worksheet 4-5)
Gov’t/Economics/Civics/Logic: Whatever Happened to Penny Candy? (2nd 1/2 chapter 6)
Science: The Story Book of Science (Chapter 13, notebooking pages), Murche’s Science Reader VI (Lesson 14, vocabulary)
Penmanship: Pictures in Cursive
Composer Study: Ancient Music to Music in the Middle Ages (Gregorian chants, listened to Salve Regina, Dies Irae and a couple that we found on YouTube, did Note-taking pages from The Young Scholar’s Guide to Composers. See the link up here.)

And now for The Homeschool Mother’s Journal:

The Homeschool Mother's Journal

In my life this week…
I've been trying to get into the mindset that we are moving. It still hasn’t sunk in. Not really. That feeling I normally get that is akin to anxiety. Otherwise, besides the kids’ school, I have some things I am working on in terms of generating income but I have a ways to go until I can reveal them to the public.
In our homeschool this week…
we finally did Composer Study! Thank you, Timberdoodle! If it weren’t for the review item I am doing (The Young Scholars Guide to Composers) I really do not know when/if this would be happening. Also there is a link up that started September 1st that has been put together by Angie at Petra School and a few other online ladies (any gentlemen??). I enjoy it so far- just have to stick with it!
Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…
We are going to be house sitting until Saturday at my dear friends. I’m glad I’m still here in town to help her out this way. (and I get to use her internet heehee)
My favorite thing this week was…
possibly Composer Study! We also did How to Read a Book together (Lee and I but Fox listens) and I like that book. The kids have done the dishes without too much guff Smile
What’s working/not working for us...
Everything seems to be working great! I would like to have more art in our school but other than dd working independently on her art work and ds making comics (and doing picture study with cursive) we aren’t accomplishing much there.
Things I’m working on…
I’m not really focusing on anything school wise but I’m trying to get into the mindset that we are moving. Getting rid of things we don’t need/use. I want to have as little extra ‘junk’ as possible when we move. The less the merrier Open-mouthed smile
I’m reading…
The Grace of God, Am I Really A Christian, The Maid and Letters to the Church: A Survey of Hebrews and the General Epistles. (yes, still reading the last two)
I’m cooking…
nothing in particular. It’s been too hot. I do plan on making Chicken Enchiladas for dh when he is here. I will make them Tuesday or Wednesday and freeze them for Thursday or Friday dinner.
I’m grateful for…
God’s mercy and grace and His many blessings to us; being able to homeschool; having two kids that I cannot live without; a husband that talks to me every day although we are apart; a best friend.
I’m praying for…
Christy’s father (he went into surgery this morning but is out and doing well), Trisha’s cousin Michele and her husband David, my children, heart cleansing for myself, mercy for my dh as he tries to work through buying/selling houses while he is super busy at work.
Homeschool questions/thoughts I have…
I am nervous about homeschooling in OH. Well, not the act. I can do that… I mean about registering in OH. We will be in OH for 10 days before we have a home of our own. If anyone asks, I’m telling them we are ‘visiting’ and homeschool out of state OR will tell them we are on vacation. Open-mouthed smile
A photo, video, link, or quote to share…

“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” Philippians 4:8 (KJV)

  2. Ah, we need a composer study. I'll have to check that out. I can sympathize with the difficulty of living without the internet. How did we ever manage in the "olden days"? :-)

  4. Ah, moving. I fully understand the anxiety of moving. I love the new adventures and sights though.

We don't do much with music yet. I love music but we are still getting into full gear with our year. I need to remember to get that in ;-)
