What We Accomplished… Day #26 8/22/11 & ATC- Artist Trading Cards

We have found a new (well, not so ‘new’) hobby!

Artist Trading Cards. Lee was reading the newest Family Fun magazine and read the article on ATC on Saturday and it’s been on our mind since Smile The kids actually had done something similar to this years ago (and I actually found some of the cards!) but I think the size was a bit larger than the ATC ‘requirements’. And the cards they made back then would probably be closer to Pokemon or some game like that. They drew characters who had specific strengths and weaknesses and they used them in a game.

Anyway, Lee has done… 8 cards already. I’ve done 3 and Fox finished his 3rd or 4th one tonight. We found the Yahoo! Group ATC_Fun and ATC_World and joined up. We would love to start a homeschooling group for ATC fun Smile If you are interested, leave a comment or email me!

I’ve been looking at books and supplies (not that you really need much). But I found this book:

atc

And these nice papers (Strathmore is a good brand):

atcpack

There were other things that I found while looking that had to do with ATC books and supplies and you can see them here. In the end we cut up a large poster that we had just setting around. Using only half of it gave us 28 cards, I think. Then we used markers, colored pencils, pencils, pigma pens and even some glue and magazine bits to create our ATCs.

So on to the what we did otherwise today Smile

They both did (just about) everything they were supposed to! For being Monday, that’s pretty impressive to me. Yea, I’m easily impressed heehee.

Bible: Lee: Reading (Numbers 26), verse (Romans 6:1-12), Mere Christianity; Fox: Reading (Numbers 15), verse (Ephesians 5:1-2), Saints & Heroes (pages 100-101)
Math: Lee: Life of Fred Beginning Algebra (Lesson 49); Fox: Life of Fred PreAlgebra 2 with Economics (chapter 20)
Science: Lee: Biology (pages 44-45, vocabulary); Fox: The Sciences (Astronomy)
History/Geography: Lee: The Life of Christopher Columbus, Western Civilization (Compare and contrast 3 writers from the 14th century); Fox: Story of the World (Chapter 35), Around the World in 180 Days (Antarctica, page 9)
Language Arts: Lee: Jensen’s Grammar (Lesson 60); Fox: 30 minutes of reading (Great Inventors & Their Inventions)
Foreign Language: Both: First Form Latin (Lesson 17, worksheet 3)
Gov’t/Economics/Civics/Logic: Fox: Whatever Happened to Penny Candy? (Chapter 5)
Penmanship: Fox: Pictures in Cursive

Lee has only one more week of paper route to go. She is happy and a little nervous as well. The money from her route pays for her phone. She will look when we move for something that she can do. We were talking about how we think it is ridiculous that teens cannot work very often. At the time when they can get their permits and they want to save for a car, many are turned down for jobs because their age. The regulations, I know, don’t allow many to work in certain jobs for safety reasons, but at the same time, I do think it robs them of something. There are so many safety regulations in place that really most places would be safe enough to work in as a teen. I’m just saying…

And on that note, I will be off of here and go to bed!
