Well, we are back at school. We school year round, with 6 weeks of school and 1 week off. The month of June is our ‘summer’. We were technically supposed to start last week but had family visiting and figured they were worth spending time with rather than doing school
Mondays are still Paper Route day (ugh) but there is only one doing that now. The time is drastically cut! Not counting the rolling of the newspapers, the time is about 1 1/2- 2 hours tops. Before it was pretty much an all day thing. So the day was started about 8 am. Lee was good and woke up to her alarm. Not I. Sigh…I’m working on it! Fox got up about the same time as we did and he actually started on school right away. Lee had to fold all her papers and for some reason, she was easily distracted (maybe it was the cat in the box that wanted to play with the papers… who knows )
So Fox got started right away with school and did quite well.
Bible: Reading (Numbers 1), Verse (Psalms 119:1-2, read, write, recite). He is reading out loud from Saints and Heroes (pages 64-66 today) to help us in two ways- 1. this way we all hear it (we seemed to miss it a lot last year), 2. it helps work on his pronunciation/enunciation as well as reading.
Math: Life of Fred PreAlgebra 2 with Economics (chapter 8- only 3 questions! … sometimes I do wonder if there isn’t enough… probably isn’t).
History/Geography: Complete Book of Marvels (because we didn’t get it finished last year –GREAT book!!), Story of the World (chapter 22), What Everyone Should Know About the 20th Century (pages 68-69, written narration).
Science: The Sciences (Introductory Chapter)
Language Arts: Robert Frost (I had him go to the library and check out books on Frost, that were about the man himself and/or contained his poetry- he came home with three good books)
Economics: Whatever Happened to Penny Candy? (read pages 12-14)
Penmanship: Pictures in Cursive (from Queen Homeschool- first line)
Foreign Language: First Form Latin (vocabulary review through Lesson 14)
Lee did well also but because she has to work, it’s a bit tougher to get all done in the day. Since this is our first week back, I let her ‘slack’ a bit (and by that I mean she can do the few things she missed later this week).
Bible: Reading (Numbers 12), Verse (Romans 6:1-2, read, write, recite). Mere Christianity (3 pages- she decided to start the book over! We were 3/4 of the way done but since it’s been a while since we did it, she felt she forgot too much of what was ‘going on’ and started over).
Math: None
History/Geography: Western Civilization (pages 283-284). Neither of the geography scheduled was completed.
Science: Biology (pages 1-2, reading and vocabulary)
Language Arts: Jensen’s Grammar (Lesson 45)
Foreign Language: First Form Latin (vocabulary review through Lesson 14). She tried to review her Greek but she couldn’t focus/remember (I said, “It’s all Greek to you?!” heehee).
And I completed day 1 of the Bible in 90 Days. Read Genesis 1-20 while Lee was doing her paper route. I also got somewhat caught up with Ministry of Motherhood group. I am behind in that in the sense I’ve not been doing the SOAPs or the study questions. I have been reading the book though and am at the right spot for where we are at week 9.
I hope to keep this updated (because it’s a good way to have a record) but if I don’t, eh, I won’t beat myself up too bad
We're struggling to keep the summer moving school wise. Too many interruptions over all. Good for you for being back on task so well.
ReplyDeleteYes it is worth waiting to spend time with family ;) Looks like you guys are working hard. Keep it up! :)
