What makes up Mad Dog Math? (from the website)
  • Enables children to master their +, -, x, and ÷ facts in a fun challenging, exciting, and motivating way
  • Math supplement for any math curriculum
  • For grades K through 5th; remedial middle school and high school
  • Standard, daily 10 minute time commitment from start to finish
  • Huge body of math facts broken down into bite-sized pieces any child can master
  • Applied system that works in every classroom and in every home
  • Students, teachers, and parents LOVE it
How we used it:
For 10 minutes at a time is what they suggest but there is no way either of my kids could do it for only 10 minutes! It did not get done every single day, as is suggested, however, I do think that the times that they did use it, it was very helpful.

It's easy to use- even I did it ;) I always liked timed math in school...
As they type the answer, it automatically moves to the next problem. It was good to help them work on their 10-key skills (although one still preferred to use the number row on the key board...habits die hard, I suppose).

What we think of it:
My kids are in 6th and 8th grade (ages 11 and 14) and I did wonder how they would like this; would it be too 'young' for them; would it be 'exciting'? They both needed some help with remembering their facts.
Here is what they had to say:
DD (14): I like it. It makes math fun. I made it to the Sticker Club on Level 3.
DS (11): I didn't think it made me like math but it was alright. I didn't like the bark at the beginning every time MDM is started.

My free trial expires June 30 and I plan to have the kids use MDM for the remainder of school as well as a bit here and there in June so that they can keep their math facts fresh. This drill program doesn't just go through fact families of up to 5 or 10... it goes up to 18!
