Weekly Wrap-Up...Coloring Pages and Animation!

Hosted by Weird, Unsocialized Homeschoolers
I love posting the Weekly Wrap-Up. It always makes me feel that we accomplished a lot. This wrap up won't be chronological, instead it will be just snippets and pieces. There were days that we didn't have school a day or two but we did do well anyway :)

Lee finished Hey Andrew! Teach Me Some Greek Level 3 (watch for our review 04/29) and wants to get the next level. She's done well with Whatever Happened to Justice? and Ourselves. She's proud of herself for getting her weekly verse down quickly also :)

Fox enjoys his science through k12. I like that they sent all the materials needed to complete the labs :) Yesterday he started one on identification of rocks/minerals but he wasn't done before I had to go to Spanish class so Lee helped him out with that. He's gotten 1/3 (31% actually) of the way through PreAlgebra also. He has been 'enjoying' (as best he can lol) the literature portion, too. He has logged 68 hours so far. It's strange to look at it that way...

Last night, Lee was insistent on making our school more 'efficient' and *ahem* funner-ish. Yes, yes, she used that word. We all stayed up way too late (me way later than anyone else- bed at 3:30 am) and around 11pm Lee and I started to use Excel to make a schedule. She wants to finish that today- she loves charts, lists, tables- organization. As I type she has sat down to plot and plan our schedules ;)

Also, we rediscovered the Unit Study boxes that my mother-in-law gave me from her homeschooling days and I discovered there are Dover Coloring Books in them! I recently became aware of Dover Coloring Books from Barb at Harmony Art Mom and went looking for them on Amazon. Who knew I had some right under my nose! We don't necessarily have ones like you will see at Harmony Art Mom but that doesn't mean that we won't soon :)

This week, using Lee's Anime Studio computer program both Lee and Fox made short animations. If I can figure out how, I will put them in this post.

I stayed up later than the kids planning out Lee's freshman year but also making an alternative schedule for Geology if/when she doesn't want to do Biology (ie: sophomore year). Of course, if she chooses that she wants to do Biology for more than 1 year, I've got that covered ;)

Also I was stressing over Fox's science plan for next year. Since we won't be using k12 I have to find something. I looked at Real Science 4 Kids, Noeo Science, The Story of Science by Joy Hakim, Horrible Science (looks promising), and others that I cannot recall at the moment but really none look like what I want. I might just go with science readers for the next year for Fox. I like The Storybook of Science by Jean Henri Fabre Murche's Science Readers, Nature Study by Grades Vol 3, The Fairy-Land of Science by Arabella Buckley (or here for Kindle :), and other readers to fill up his science time. Although, he really likes BrainPop...I may look into a subscription to that for him.

I think that about covers our week. OH! Before I forget:

  2. Hi Blossom,
Sounds like a fun week. Can I borrow your daughter I wish I was that organized. Are animations ones that you or your children have created? They are very cute.

  3. @ Ellen~ Fabre books are really great. They are definitely living books! Fox really loves to read anyway so this is perfect. Since I cannot find a science curriculum that I want to use, I'm glad that we have the books :)

@ 2littlehearts~ LOL My dd loves to make charts and lists but the implementing she doesn't much care for ;) I will be very interested to see how our school will be more 'efficient and funner-ish' ;) And the animations they made themselves using Anime Studio that dd purchased with Christmas money.

How have you liked k12? I was just looking at it the other day for my bil who may consider homeschooling my nephew next year.

  7. @ Leah C~ If your nephew is from the public school and they are looking for something along the same lines, the k12 would probably work well for them. If however they are not liking the format or methods (or maybe the curriculum) of public school, I'm not sure k12 would be a good fit. I've written a few posts on how I feel about k12 (search k12) on my blog and while it isn't something that we will continue with next year- because of my personal reasons- I can't say that the program itself is so bad.
