Weekly Wrap-Up ...03/18/2011

Hosted by Weird, Unsocialized Homeschoolers
Well, well, well...another week down :) Let's see what's been up with us...

Monday was Co-Op (of course) and it went well. This was the first Monday that there weren't Littles for me to chase after :) The kids (mine and others) are preparing things for the showcase that will be held on Friday the 25th. In my writing class I've asked for a neatly written (spelling-checked) piece of writing to put up on a poster board. There are 5 students in the class so I'm hoping for 4 different styles of poetry and a short story. But I'll be ecstatic whatever they give me!

Lee and Fox are disputing evolution with the Bible in Astronomy.

Fox had PAWS testing this week. They schedule 2 1/2-3 weeks for this (at least for those in WYVA), with 2-3 1/2 hour blocks, to make sure it's convenient for all. Fox finished in two days (2 1/2 hours more like...). The tests are not shared with the parents so I won't get to see how individually he did, just in general the entire school district, or maybe it's just the entire state. I'm not really sure how it goes. Honestly, he didn't have to do hardly any school this week partly due to PAWS but really it was mostly because of me... I didn't make him. Go figure.

Monday also was the kids' paper route. This time it was finished in 1 1/2 hours :) Doing good. Tuesday we remembered to go to 4H for shooting. Glad we did. They both had a lot of fun. They have decided to narrow down their projects to archery and pistol (before I think they also had air rifle). Wednesday was very nice. So nice that they spent a lot of time at the park. Thursday not much happened- just another day :)

Today, since school was mostly put by the wayside the rest of the week, I made them do double-time. Fridays are usually 'light'- for just this reason! Today gave me what was probably the most enjoyable experience I've had with Fox for math. He detests math so it's usually a bit of a struggle. We just 'get through it' usually. But today was so nice... I wanted him to do a little bit more but I didn't want to ruin such a good thing! Lee and I got through with chapter 22 in Fearfully & Wonderfully Made and chapter 13 of History of English Literature. She could have finished The Brendan Voyage this week but it looks like it'll be the first part of next week. I'm not even going to post at the end what we accomplished this week because it's so scattered and short.  We did some stuff.

A little note: Finally I got the results for Fox's placement tests for WYVA. I wasn't too surprised. Well, actually for the math, I was a little. He doesn't like it so much and so often he forgets what he's supposed to do for certain problems I wasn't sure how he'd do. He scored in the 76th percentile for math. In reading he scored in the 98th percentile. That one I wasn't surprised at all. He supposedly reads 300 words per minute. Yikes. I'm pretty sure that they do an assessment at the end of the year to see the difference but I won't swear to that. I am proud of him :)

Personally, I made a huge batch of beans and a large pot of brown rice to put in the freezer. I put the beans into glass jars- two in the fridge and two in the freezer (after allowing to cool, of course). Haven't gotten the rice portioned out yet. I also made some granola. I didn't have any coconut flour (that's some good stuff!) so used some of the gluten free all purpose flour that my friend gave me. It had a different taste but it is still good. I also used cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg and cloves I think to add to the flavor since I didn't have any juice this time  (oh, in the recipe I posted on my blog I forgot to mention I used 1/2 cup honey and 1/2 cup whatever juice I have on hand). My kids love the granola- makes a good breakfast and a snack :) And it's good for you!

I've also been reading what seems like a lot of books lately! I've posted reviews for Deeper Into the Word, A Conversation with God for Women, The Ale Boy's Feast and I have The Fight of Our Lives and The Final Summit on my Kindle (both which are good!). The last two will hopefully be up by 4/16/11 (The Final Summit cannot go live until at least 4/11/11 but wouldn't you know, I'm almost done with that one first!). Tomorrow the blog tour review for A Trail of Ink will go live :) And my classes for EOU concluded. Thankfully. I got an A- in one and an incomplete in the other (I have some things to get turned in still...) My Spanish class continues on...

So that is how our week has gone. I'm glad that I will have two weeks off from EOU because it will allow me to get caught up with the kids. They aren't 'behind' really but I like to have more interaction than I am able to sometimes when my classes are in session.

Since it's Friday it's movie night. I really don't watch many movies (I'm finicky) so dd is watching one by herself (sad, I know) while Fox is spending the night at a friends. After I post this I will go sit with her. She is watching Hotel for Dogs from Redbox. And here is a photo of our silly cat, Kawaii, with the look that asks, "Are you getting me food!?" No, no, cat...no more food, sheesh!

How was your week? See what others have been up to at Weird, Unsocialized Homeschoolers :)
