Weekly Wrap-Up...12/10/10

Weird, Unsocialized Homeschoolers
Yippie- it's Friday!

Monday: We drove to Scottsbluff so that Lee could sing with the homeschoolers group at two area nursing homes. It was beautiful! I really think that the residents thoroughly enjoyed the performances. The kids sang 4 songs and I wish I had a recording- it was great.

Tuesday: We thought our ALEKS membership had ended (actually it wasn't officially over until the 11th but I wrote that down wrong...and by the way, if you already read my review that was accidentally posted, I am going to be posting the review again the 13th, but with added information) and so the kids and I went over Life of Fred. With Lee we decided to start her Beginning Algebra over- yep, at the beginning- because when checking her work often there were a lot of missed questions and many that were simply unanswered because she said she didn't know how to do it. After going that way for a while we decided something had to give. So we start over. Fox is still in the "starting" the PreAlgebra 2 with Economics but it's been put a bit on the side because of the other math we were trying to review. It was good, though, to have the ALEKS trial because there were chunks that we was able to review. I think it was good for him. We will continue with the LoF next week. Lee is working on her research paper that will be due on 12/16. And we are trudging right along with the Write Foundation for Fox. Some days go better than others... Fox finished up Lesson 5 with some really great Warning Sentences. Now we are onto Lesson 6 (he's not too fond of adverbs lol).

Wednesday: This day, although it was intended, was no school. We went around town doing a bit of last minute Christmas shopping for family that is out of town. It was a bit funny when we went to one local store because we saw a lady that goes to our church. She asked if we were on a field trip- and I said yes, to better learn about economics. There are two local giving trees that I know about this year (there are probably more but I don't really get out much) and I was looking for things to get for that but really there isn't much in the way of useful items at the stores lately. I don't know. Maybe it's just me. It seems that there are aisles of candy and ornaments but not so much in the way of warm socks and such. I made bread on this day :)

Thursday: This was a very good day schoolwise I think. We got all of our core subjects done. I've decided to stop with Spanish for now and focus on Latin. Both of the kids pick it up much quicker than the Spanish, which surprises me. I am going to be looking for a program that deals with Spanish the way First Form does with Latin. It is so much easier to understand and grasp, in my opinion. Later in the day the kids watched Veggie Tales- you're never too old for Veggie Tales!!

Friday- Today zoomed by. The kids were working on teamwork (they were building with Legos), reading and generally relaxing. I can feel another break coming. We tend to skip a few more days when there is one around the corner. I'm not entirely sure why... but probably has a lot to do with me :) Well, just one more week and then we are off until January. Joy :)

  1. I know what you mean about slow days near holidays -- it has something to do with me, too! I've not seen First Form Latin; I think I'll take a look at that. Miss Priss is not fond of Latina Christiana. And you-re right -- you're never too old for VeggieTales! Madame Blueberry is still one of our favorites.

  2. Definitely never too old for Veggie Tales. :-)

BTW, I am using Little Pilgrim's Progress by Helen Taylor. It is an adaptation of the original by John Bunyan that makes several of the characters children but still maintains the events of the original and is pretty true to the writing style of the original. I'm not always one for adaptations, but I am reading to ages 5-11, so I want something we can all relate to and understand.
