The In His Image Devotional Bible will help you know God more deeply as you discover His attributes and character throughout Scripture. You will become more like Christ as you practice directed, prayerful reading of God’s Word. Experience greater peace facing life’s challenges as you learn to see God fully.
The New Living Translation is an authoritative Bible translation, rendered faithfully into today’s English from the ancient texts by 90 leading Bible scholars. The NLT’s scholarship and clarity breathe life into even the most difficult-to-understand Bible passages—but even more powerful are stories of how people’s lives are changing as the words speak directly to their hearts. That’s why we call it “The Truth Made Clear.” From Tyndale Media Center website
Are you looking for a devotional Bible to have that doesn't just take bits and pieces of the Bible to focus on, while leaving out the whole Bible? This may be the one for you. The translation is the New Living Translation, which offers a more modern language to help understand the Bible. Throughout this Bible are focus points, usually on the right side of the passage, along with reasoning and explanations that go with the passage. It also directs to other passages that deal with similar situations/issues.
I usually use a different translation and am a bit skeptical when I read newer translation of the Holy Bible. I tried to not let this detract from my reading and review of this book. I enjoyed this book. The wording, being a different translation seems watered down to me (just my opinion- my skepticism creeping in I'm pretty sure) but I really enjoyed reading the side notes and following the 'path' to other passages that deal with the same topics or themes. I felt it help me to grasp more fully the point to be found in these.
An example is when I was reading in Jeremiah. I had begun reading this book about a month and a half ago and without reading some other books before hand, I didn't know who certain people were and what was being referred to. The side notes helped me with this. Also, there are prayers in the devotional that one can use on a daily basis. I found those somewhat helpful because sometimes I honestly don't know the words to say- these were helpful.
I think this is a worthwhile book. If you enjoy the NLT and would like a devotional that does not pick and choose which scriptures to include (I feel that we sometimes miss the context if they are plucked out), this may be for you.
**Disclaimer: I received this complimentary book from Tyndale House Publishers in exchange for an honest review.
