Tuesday we used Christian Kids Explore Physics from Bright Ideas Press for the first time. I got this from BIP for a review from TOS. You will be able to read my review of this 11/22/10. We did 'history' via the History Channels History of Us dvds. But I'm seriously in need of a new dvd player. Sigh. It won't read the discs any longer. We used my laptop- good thing it has a huge screen (usually this is something that is a negative for the kids: "It's so huge! So much screen!").
Wednesday we used some of Chunky Yuck that I received for review for TOS also. You'll see my review of that on 10/29/10- but I will say the kids' interest in this was great. It's difficult to find something that they want to do. I think this is the day that Lee got her Tablet in the mail also... oh the excitement about killed us! She was so intent on using it that she almost lost the privilege to at all... attitude is everything sometimes!
Thursday truly felt like nothing got done BUT contrare (or you know, that French word that means contrary) because we spent a good portion of our morning at the Goshen County Public Library's Used Book Sale. In the time we were there the library earned over $100. That may not seem like much but this is the second and final week of the sale. I'm sure they did extremely well the rest of the days. Fox actually initiated our volunteering there shortly after we moved here. It is so far the only thing that we've done volunteer wise and would like to have more opportunities...will just have to wait and see I guess. Also, I was able to finally see that neither of my kiddos are doing as well in their math as they said (and that I am a bit rusty in math!). I worked one-on-one with both of them with some of the problems they were having and I'm glad we did. Now I know where we need to be focusing more on- and we need to slow down.
So I have a question for anyone math oriented: Solve 12y2-5y-2=0
We know the answer (because we looked it up lol) but don't understand how it is so.
Friday- yippie!- we've been pluggin along. Our school day is over. The highlight was lunch lol. We are participating in the Book It Program this year. I've made it so the kids must read 4 books. They can come from this list (down at the bottom) and this one (same thing- all the way to the bottom). I also have a nice collection of books on my Kindle and Cybook now, as well as my 5 or so bookshelves that they can choose from. The only requirements are that they read a book that they have not read before (or if it has been quite awhile depending on the book, I'll count it) and it has to be a challenge- as in it's not so easy to read it takes only an hour or two. So far Lee has read 1/2 of the unabridged Little Women (part first)- check for the free Kindle versions!- and The Search for WondLa. She keeps reading other books (such as the Warriors series) that she really really likes but has read countless times so she is taking a while to earn her coupon. Fox has just zipped through his books and that is why we got lunch at Pizza Hut :) His books were: The Long Winter, Anne of Green Gables, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, Boy's Stories of Great Men, and one other (since he finished The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe incredibly fast) that I cannot recall at this moment! I really wanted him to read Adventures of Tom Sawyer but perhaps another month- said he just couldn't get into it!
