This link was posted at the AmblesideOnline Yahoo! Group in a discussion of what would be considered "twaddle" when looking for good books for our kids and ourselves. AmblesideOnline group is one of my favorite. Check out this list that is pretty extensive and broken down by reading levels. As mentioned on the site, the list is not exhaustive; there are doubtless many more books that would be considered Great and not twaddle.
Not only are the books broken down by reading level but also types of books. For instance, the Primary Reading Level 1-3 includes Bible, Anthologies & Poetry, Holiday, Picture, Beginning Readers, Easy Readers, and Advanced Readers. The Junior Reading Level 7-9 includes Anthologies & Poetry, Holiday Books, Literature and Advanced Literature.
Although this list is compiled by those that follow the Trivium method of teaching, it does include many books that those who follow any method (Charlotte Mason, Eclectic, Thomas Jefferson Education, Unschooling, etc) could find useful.
Methods of Education*:
Thomas Jefferson Education: TJED Online, Wikipedia (needs references), Homeschooling Unlimited, New Foundations, Homeschool Diner
*There are many other methods of schooling, I only linked ones that I specifically mentioned in my post. There are also an immense number of sites that would give information about each of these methods, I only included some. Here are some others.
I am excited to check it out. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by! I had hoped someone might find it useful :)
ReplyDeleteHey! Thanks for stopping by my blog. As long as you left a comment on the HSBA post saying you want to sign up, that is all you have to do! ONce they close the sign up, you will be paired with someone and then you can shop for your partner, send her your gifts and then get yours as well. I love doing it. It is SO fun!
