I'm not going to finish that post here and now because well, I haven't researched it enough to have come up with anything new/interesting. Well, wait, I did come up with something interesting to me. I found it at Silvia's blog Homeschooling in a Bilingual Home. It's about Easter. I don't go over there that often because there are so many pages on the world wide web that many just get lost in the shuffle, but I have found many useful bits and pieces at her blog. This one, I found to be very interesting. I rather liked it...
Once a catch-all for our homeschool and everyday family life, now a spot for my meanderings about whatever comes to mind- and always books.
Verse of the Day {KJV}

Blossom, I'm so VERY GLAD that the post has been read and benefited from by you. I thought it was too controversial, but I'm not politically correct and speak when the Bible speak.
ReplyDeleteLet me share something else. I went to another blog and saw another post on Easter. It showed someone celebrating it with something called a Menorah plate (and I wonder what's a Menorah plate, why do I need a Menorah plate, and where do we know we need one for Easter), and it had a link to five reasons why to celebrate Easter, I read a quote from Exodus (which wasn't a verse with a commandment for worshiping the Lord), and it said it wasn't about traditions, it wasn't about laws...so what was it about? Ah, my friend, then you have the Menorah plate for a discounted price, all Easter articles at 50%...so is it about "materialism"?
Many believe that if this display of objects, rituals, invented traditions and gimmicks has a religious motivation it's beneficial and pleasing to God. But look at the message we are sending (that of picking and creating our own worshiping).
I told my husband when Jesus went to the temple and got 'angry' with the merchants who were selling inside it. Don't you think they were selling good merchandise? I'm sure they were trying to make a living, selling things for the temple, the homes...What can be wrong about that? It simply doesn't belong there.
We HUMANS, always trying to improve God's plan in its simplicity.
Just don't make 'things' idols, don't look for celebrations, rituals, and obey and do those few God has commanded us in the Scriptures.
Thanks for listening to my ramblings, Blossom, and I'm adding your blog, I'm glad you found me cause I also found you.
If Easter is something the Lord wants us to celebrate, He would have left clear instructions (as He did for assembling on the Lord's day and partaking communion, for example), and if he didn't there is no need to follow arbitrary man made rituals at any made up 'religious season'.
